NFC East Roundtable - Our First Call

September 6th, 2006

Well fellow meatheads . . . we did it! The first official call of what I plan on making a regular feature on this blog/podcast - The NFC East Roundtable. I thought it would be fun to get another meathead fan from each of the teams in our division who was also passionate and fired up to talk some NFC East football with me on the phone throughout the season. Sure I give you the Big Blue perspective but why not hear what Eagle fans, Dallassholes, and Redskin fans are thinking too (oh don’t worry I’ll come up with some insulting names for Eagles and Redskins soon enough!).

So I invited two friends of mine Marc “the Dallasshole” to represent the Dallas Cowboys side of things and Peter “I’m Green and I’m Proud” Martin to talk some Philadelphia Eagles smack. Unfortunately after much work we have not yet been able to secure a Redskin fan (actually we believe they are all just scared after a lame preseason and hiding from the rest of the big, bad, NFC East . . . but time will tell . . . I haven’t given up yet!).
So with mere days before the kickoff of the 2006 NFL Season I got my homies to join me on a conference call and we had a blast. We started out each giving updates on our team, how they did in the preseason and off season and what we expected (of course we are all starry eyed and excpect the best). Then we each got a chance to ask some questions of each other and finished it all up with our parting shots and predictions. I’m actually amazed at how civilized we were on this first call . . . It will be funny to listen to this call mid way through the season to see who was accurate and who was just completely delusional. But we had a good time and got FIRED UP!
So click the link below to listen in with the flash player or download the MP3 so you can listen on your computer or MP3 player. Enjoy and make sure to post some comments and feedback and let us know what you think!

Let the hype begin . . .

September 5th, 2006

Ahhh yes with the preseason behind us now - the hype has fully kicked in for the matchup everyone is waiting for Manning vs. Manning when Peyton Manning and his Colts come to Giants Stadium on Sunday to take on Eli Manning and our beloved Gmen. It’s also the first nationally televised Sunday night game of the season since the whole shake up in the format so it’s got extra hype written all over it.

It’s great to see that Burress and the other Giant players are confident Eli can handle the pressure.

I’m also excited to announce that tonight I will be holding the very first NFC East Roundtable call featuring in addition to myself a hard core Eagle fan as well as a Cowboy fan. I’ll be posting the audio tomorrow so be sure to come by and check out the audio as we but heads talking trash about the best division in the NFL!

Giants finish the preseason a perfect 4-0!

August 31st, 2006

Yes the Gmen must have watched my first video podcast and heard when I said how important I feel it is to win in the preseason as it gives the team the “attitude” of winning and you forget how to lose. The Gmen took it to the Pats tonight winning the game 31-23 in a well fought battle. The last time the Giants were unbeaten in preseason play was 1990 – which is also the last time they won the Super Bowl.

Brandon Jacobs (who I was just giving props to in my video posted earlier today) was a MONSTER rushing for 130 yards on 15 carries including scoring 2 TDs. The highlight was an amazing 57 yarder where he sped through a whole and really turned on the juice. The bruising 6-4, 264-pound back ran over, through, and by defenders all night!

The D was ferocious once again with the only downpoint being Stahan leaving the game in the first quarter, but luckily the injury didn’t look serious.

So next for the Gmen is the battle we have all been waiting for - a week from this Sunday when the Manning brothers become the first QB brothers to face off in NFL history. You don’t think Big Blue is gonna let Eli lose to his older brother do you? No way I say! The game is in Giants stadium . . . and The Big Blue Wrecking Crew is ready for a rumble!

Episode 3 - Phil’s Giant Meatlocker

August 31st, 2006

Welcome back fellow meatheads. Sorry about the delay in getting the 3rd installment of Phil’s Giant Meatlocker up. I actually recorded one on the road from Boston last Friday afternoon but due to some technical difficulties I couldn’t get it posted. So figured I’d scrap it and just post this one instead. Watch this episode to hear my thoughts about the Giants preseason games verus the Chiefs and the Jets. Big Blue is looking tough and if they win tonights matchup against the Pats they will be a perfect 4-0 in the preseason . . . and you know how important I think it is to win in the preseason . . . set the bar baby . . . and an attitude of victory!

I hope to have our First NFC East Roundtable call next week so check back for the audio of that to be posted soon.

Enjoy this episode and FIRE IT UP!

Giants over Jets 13-7

August 28th, 2006

Yeah baby - will the Real NY Team please stand up . . . and they did as the Gmen man handled the Jets 13-7. Don’t let the score fool you - the Jets 7 came on a blocked punt which they returned for a TD. That means including the shutout of the Chiefs in the 2nd preseason game the Giant D has let up NO point in 8 quarters of football - that’s right none, zilch, zero, a big gooseegg. Now that’s Giant D baby!!

Get the scoop on this game.

Visit BigBlue Tailgate - Great Collection of Giant Wallpaper!

August 24th, 2006

A few days ago I got a shout out from Jeffrey Frey - a fired up Giants fan, fellow meathead, and the owner of BigBlueTailgate.com. You have to go check out his site!

He has the biggest collection of NY Giants wallpaper I’ve seen for your PC (and trust me I’ve looked around). In fact I downloaded almost 30 of them and installed a free program on my laptop called Wallpaper Master that automatically changes my wallper every 30 minutes. Now I’m ready for the season baby! He also has a bunch of my favorite football commercials that you can watch on his site AND (and here is one of the best parts) a countdown on the home page till the first game of Manning vs. Manning (way to go Jeff!).

This site also featues some great tailgating tips, recipes, and photos Jeff and his crew firing it up in the parking lot of Giants stadium. Go by, take a look, and be sure to use the form on the right to give him a shout.

I’ll be sure to visit his site throughout the season . . . as he says It’s All About the Tailgate!

Some Good Giant articles and a different team took the field

August 22nd, 2006

Hey there fellow meatheads. I hope you all had a chance to watch the Gmen play the Chiefs last Thursday. They shut out the Chiefs 17-0. WOW is all I can say. They looked liked a completely different team than the one that struggled against the Ravens the week before. The offense and Defense looked sharp, crisp and fired up. Eli was throwing extremely well and made great decisions. Everyone looked pumped and ready to rumble!

But more on that in my next video update which I’ll try to post later today or tomorrow.

Here are a few good articles you’ll want to check out:

Coughlin’s Camp - Preseason Address: Coughlin addressed the media with his views and updates on this Giants camp.

Putting their heads together - After playing together in Washington and then time apart Antonio Pierce and Lavaar Arrington are back together but this time wearing Giant Blue! Find out more about this abbot and costello - batman and robin duo. Be sure to read this one!

Giants beat the Chiefs in an impressive 17-0 win

August 18th, 2006

Sure its just a preseason game but this looked like a totally different Giants team than the one that took the field against the Ravens last Friday. The offense was crisp, Eli was throwing the ball extremely well and spreading the ball around, and the D was dominating keeping the pressure on till the final seconds. Now that’s Giant Football baby!!

Check out this article for more details on the game.

Episode 2 - Phil’s Giant Meatlocker

August 16th, 2006

Welcome back my fellow meatheads! The Gmen beat the Ravens last Friday night in their preseason opener 17-16 but it certainly wasn’t a convincing win or a comforting one for Giant fans.

Check out this weeks episode of Phil’s Giant Meatlocker below for my reactions to the game, why winning in preseason is important, and what Marshmallows have to do with Eli.

The Star Ledger also had a good article Sizing up the NFC.

Also don’t forget tomorrow night the Giants take on the Kansas City Chiefs in preseason game #2 on Fox at 8PM. Check it out and FIRE IT UP!

It wasn’t pretty - but it was a win

August 14th, 2006

Well boys and girls . . . it was a pretty ugly win but it did have a few flashes of positive things to come (and hell it was football . . . that alone is something worth cheering about!)

Check out this Star Ledger update on the game. I’ll post another video update later today or tomorrow to give you my thoughts on the game.
